Unfortunately, despite considerable planning, the story remained stagnate and like Jurassic Park, never truly opened. I do find it funny looking back, how some of the fundimental elements of this original plot (notably the hybridization of species) has been used in the new movie Jurassic World. Now, like Isla Nublar, this island is finally being opened to the public.[/quote]
The New World originated as a simple idea while watching Jurassic Park III. During a scene in which Dr. Alan Grant takes a drink from a stream on Isla Sorna, the thought occurred to me that with the various unauthorized experiments on the island some chemical or virus exposed previously to the dinosaurs could have contaminated the waterways. What if his companion Billy appearing as a raptor in Alan’s dream on the plane had been a premonition and the stranded heroes of the film mutated to be stuck forever as raptors on the island? This of course is NOT how the film’s plot progresse but the thought stuck in my mind as an interesting concept.
After reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Lost World” (1912) I realized that there was enough of a unique historical element to develop in to the foundation for an entirely new setting and plot in the same world as the Jurassic Park universe yet similar enough to the Jurassic Park films’ settings for those who were unfamiliar with the novels to follow along and visualize.
Around the same time as these thoughts I was attempting to revive my first RP world Nigeri once more, and I had attempted to set up a multiple-forum roleplaying site to host it and other ideas of which The New World became one. Unfortunately what I had named Dragonrealm when it began in 2008 was a doomed project and folded after only one year. Seven years later in 2015 I attempted to revive the idea as a forum with its own website due to the popularity of the newly released film Jurassic World, revising the details of the New World plot to tie in with events made canon by that film. Unfortunately there was not enough interest in the forum to keep it alive.
Interest in reviving the story as a Discord server reached me in early 2021 and once more I have decided to bring The New World to the public. Considering the direction that the continuation of Jurassic World has taken this revised edition of The New World has stepped back from the 2015 encarnation of this story to a time just after the successful opening of Simon Masrani’s park. The transformation element will still exist in this story at a later date although as a secondary focus to the main plot: An island of dinosaurs and humans with a positive safety record…so far.
