Ceratosaurus, though looking at first like any other large theropod such as T-Rex, sports several physical differences. Beyond the smaller size (only 20ft long) it has a larger-than-average head in proportion to its body, more visible nasal ridges, and three large vertical spikes – one between its nostrils and one serving as a highly prominent ridge above each eye. While hard and sometimes used in territorial fights for holding an opponent’s head these are not primarily offensive weapons but rather meant for decoration and impressing potential mates.

Ceratosaurs are solitary creatures, although they will travel with a mate once they have found one. They occasionally but do not always mate for life.

While preferring smaller prey they are capable of devouring larger creatures. This species has proportionately large blade like teeth which can slice through meat and score bone quite easily, yet they often eat by taking large bites and shifting their jawbones from side to side to compress and stretch the food rather than chewing or slicing into smaller pieces.
