The staff here at Dragon’s Rest want you to have fun and enjoy your time in the server. To make sure everyone can fairly do so we have laid out the following rules and expectations of our members. These rules can be changed by staff at any time.

This page is broken down into the following categories:

Server Rules

  • All instructions and decisions made by members of the Council are final and must be followed. Appeals may only be made in #council-audience.
  • No insulting other members or their beliefs. Minimize religion and political discussion.
  • No excessive swearing. Avoid potentially offensive, derogatory or sexual words.
  • NSFW content and conversation is forbidden.
  • NO spamming caps, memes, and emojis anywhere except for #memes-and-spam
  • Excessive venting is not allowed in General chat and we will NOT be creating a venting channel.
  • Any issues with other members should be resolved in DM and not in server channels.
  • All characters must be posted in #characters before roleplaying. When approved you will be granted the associated roles that will allow you to post in RP channels.
  • Be respectful of other members and their characters.
  • No Godmodding or auto-hitting
  • Do not make any changes to or inflict unapproved injuries on another player’s character(s) without their consent. This includes casual roleplay actions in OOC channels.
  • Keep OOC discussion out of roleplay channels. Use #active-rp-discussion or DMs instead
  • Tupperbot is for RP use. Non-server character tuppers should stay in #tupperware.

Roleplaying Rules

  • Be respectful of other players and their characters.
  • DO NOT join a roleplay story without permission by the other members.
  • If possible, create a thread for your story if it is taking place in a popular area.
  • We are not Character Locked. It is allowed to use the same character in multiple stories, especially if using the same character for both literate and standard sessions.
  • Do not control the actions of any other member’s character in your post. This includes stating whether a character was struck by an attack in stories related to fighting.
  • No short posts in roleplay channels. Players will be told to replace posts with fewer than 8 words. Preferably, players should attempt paragraph sized posts whenever possible.
  • Posts should be written in 3rd person tense (he, she, his, hers).
  • It is the expectation of each roleplayer that the others who they are interacting with will attempt to put equal effort into the story.
    • Make an attempt to match the post length of your roleplay partner(s) if you can.
    • Frequently short, reaction-only posts such as “He was scared” or “She runs away” and smaller or single-word replies will not be tolerated and may be considered spam.
    • Continuity and quality is important. Make sure you read and understand others’ posts before replying. (In example, be sure that you do not claim to overhear a conversation if it is across the village or in other parts of the cavern from where your character currently is located.)
  • A good format to remember when writing each post is “Reaction, Description, Action” – in other words:
    • Write how your character reacts to the others’ actions in their post
    • Describe any facial expressions, movements or changes of setting that take place
    • Then add your own action and statements for others to react to.
  • Hunter characters are NOT allowed on Dragon’s Rest island channels unless during an approve event
    • Captures of DR dragons that are planned by members may be done off of the shore or on other nearby islands.
    • Dragon characters may plan stories where they attempt to rescue other dragons and are captured, then themselves needing rescued by others
    • Unsolicited captures during rescue RP sessions are not permitted.

Character Rules

  • Characters must be posted in #characters to be examined and approved by the Council before you can join a story.
  • Each Tier 1 member is permitted up to one (1) Brutish Tribe Viking character and/or one (1) Dragon character.
  • No official franchise characters may be used or referenced. Vikings cannot know of Berk.
  • The Council holds the right to reject a character for any reason or to request changes to a character after approval.

    • Larger variations may be explained as coming from far away lands but may be rejected by the Council.
  • The Council may intervene and request details of a post be changed at any time if they feel this is not being followed.
  • Human characters must be at least 15 years old. Dragon characters must be at least 10. Tier 3 members and above may be excluded from this rule by Council discretion.
  • Sexual orientation should NOT be used as a primary character focus and does not belong on character profiles, minor reference to a character’s orientation in backstory and RP is allowed.
  • Humans cannot understand “dragonese” and most dragons are unable to understand norse.
    • Communication between dragon and viking should be through gestures and training to learn what the others’s ‘noises’ mean.
    • Some dragons may learn to understand vikings speaking but cannot learn to speak norse.
    • The council may permit a dragon character with basic reading/writing abilities but this is very rare.
  • If you desire to play a dragon character with a rider and/or a dragonrider:
    • You may develop your characters so that they are a dragon and rider team.
    • You also may team up with another member for this relationship.
    • A Dragon/Rider bond cannot easily be changed. Be sure that the decision is one you wish to make permanent.

Our Tier System & Roles

As Dragon’s Rest has grown, so has the number of dragon characters which would be considered rare in the HTTYD world. To encourage a more varied population and a higher quality roleplay experience a tier system has been put in place for our membership. Any dragons allowed before these rules were put into place may be kept by their members regardless of their tier. There are four tiers of membership! In addition there are two levels of staff type role as well as a whole selection of self assignable roles based on your roleplaying preferences.

→ Tier 1: New Members

  • Over 30 dragon species available. Look for “Tier 1” in the Book of Dragons.
  • If you are wanting a more rare species (Night/Light Fury, Skrill, Seashocker, Etc.), create a viking or a Tier 1 dragon as a side character for now to show the Council how well you can RP.

→ Tier 2: Proven Members

After new members have been roleplaying for at least a month the Council may decide to promote them to Tier 2. They look at how often and how well the member roleplays, quality of posts and how much detail and story progression the member contributes. Tier 2 members receive…

  • Permission to create additional characters
  • Access to many popular species including Night Fury, light Fury and Nightlight.

→ Tier 3: Server Leaders

These members have proven that they are eager to help progress story plotlines and promote more activity on the server by leading multiple storylines at a time with their multiple characters. These members…

  • Gain access to more dangerous dragons including Deathsong and Deathgripper
  • Are allowed to create Hunter or villain characters and vikings from other tribes.
  • May suggest new original species of dragon for the Council to consider adding to the Book of Dragons.

→ Tier 4: Legendary Members

Members who have proven to be great assets to the server. These members can create characters for any species in the Book of Dragons including extremely rare species such as Boneknapper, Crimson Goregutter or Eruptodon.

→ Core Members

These members show their interest in guiding the server through activity and creativity and help the Council come up with ideas for roleplay plotlines and server additions. Only Core Members will be considered for promotion to the Council. This role does not affect their tier level or permissions.

→ Tribal Council (Staff)

This is the moderation staff for the server. They have the permissions of all tiers and their word is law.

Disciplinary Action

  • Any member of the council may issue a warning to any member of the server who violates these rules.
  • The Council may also provide warnings for poor roleplay quality which count toward these
  • Repeat violations of these rules may result in suspension for a day.
  • Continuing to violate these rules after returning from a one day suspension may result in a one week suspension or a complete banishment from the server at the discretion of the Council.
  • A banned member may only return only if the Council believes the individual is truly sorry for their actions and willing to avoid further violations.
